If you start planning for back-to-school early in July, then you can enjoy August even more.
It feels like the kids just got out of school, yet it's already time to prepare to send them back. I know how it feels as a busy mom of three kids myself who also runs our daily operations at Sherah.
We help busy parents every day juggle all of the responsibilities that come with having a family and a career, so we see what it takes to get it all done. We also see ways to hack the process so it's a little easier and less stressful.
One of the ways to lessen the stress is to get a jump start on the planning in July when things seem a bit slower so that August stays manageable.
Here are the top five tasks to begin thinking about for the back-to-school season.
Adding the 2023-24 school calendar to your calendar. Add the full year now and you'll thank yourself later. Never be surprised by a teacher workday again! If you're feeling extra helpful and productive, you can go ahead and add other parents to your calendar invites to help each other out.
Purchasing the school supply list(s). Be sure to check your supplies at home first. You often have items left over from last school year still hanging around your house. Check with friends, neighbors and other parents in the same class and see if they want to go in together on items.
Signing up for fall sports and activities. Register now and get them added to your calendar so you can plan accordingly. Getting ahead of these details will make for a much smoother fall and school year. Ask your neighbors what sports and activities they're doing in case you can carpool. Plus kids are likely to whine less when a friend will be there.
Confirming after-school child care solutions from sitters to formal programs. Be sure to plan fall sports and activities first because you hate to pay for childcare programs in advance when don't need it. Plus you'll know if you need a sitter to run them around while you're working. And don't forget to ask sitters if they can pitch in with folding laundry and dinner prep once they're back to your house.
Purchasing clothes, shoes and uniforms. Don't forget to connect with other families to share gently used items instead of buying new. It saves money and helps the earth!
Don't forget that Sherah can also get these tasks done for you. Our community of personal assistants (who are moms too!) help our members get ready for these busy seasons so they can stress less and enjoy life more.
Pro Tip: Don't try to do it all by yourself. Lean on your community during the busy back-to-school season.
Whether it's leaning on your neighbors, friends, fellow class parents or your Sherah personal assistants, we weren't meant to do this alone. Remember that you're not the only one having to juggle all of these responsibilities. Reach out to other parents and figure it out together.
